The temperature isn’t the only thing on the rise when spring arrives! According to a new study from Zillow.com, the real estate market tends to heat up as well, beginning in May.
Researchers from Zillow.com, one of the internet’s top resources for both local home listings as well as information on the real estate buying process, used data from their website to determine which months were the most beneficial for homeowners looking to sell. Results showed that homes listed for sale between the dates of May 1st and May 15th sold an average of 18.5 days sooner than homes listed outside this timeframe.
Homes sold during the beginning half of May also listed a final selling price of about 1% above the local average when compared to homes in the same area that were closed outside of this period. While 1% may not seem like much, this averages out to an extra $1,700 in your pocket, which is not exactly a small chunk of change!
How can homeowners use this information? If they want to get their home on the market by May, it means that they need to start completing upgrades and repairs now.
