How to Clean Your Kitchen Cabinets This Spring

Spring is here, and you know what that means — it’s time to do some deep cleaning! The kitchen is one room in your home that deserves some extra TLC. It probably gets pretty heavy use, and it can be difficult to clean thanks to the buildup of grease and crumbs from cooking. After reviewing the infographic below on how to maintain your kitchen cabinets, follow these steps to get your kitchen cabinets looking like new. (If you follow these steps and they still don’t look the way you like, you may want to consider cabinet refacing for your Burlington County home.)

Cleaning the Exterior of Your Cabinets

Step 1: Make a cleaning solution of dish soap with warm water. This mild solution will work well on most cabinet materials, including laminate, painted wood, and vinyl, and is an effective degreaser.

Step 2: Spray your solution onto the cleaning cloth. Start at the top of the cabinet and work your way down to the bottom.

Step 3: With a clean, wet cloth, rinse the solution off the cabinets. Once finished, wipe once more with a dry cloth to ensure that water doesn’t settle on the surface and discolor or warp the cabinets.

Step 4: If your cabinets have glass or mirrors, you can use a specialized glass cleaner. Spray a cloth or paper towel with the cleaner and wipe down the glass.

Step 5: Clean any hardware on the cabinets. You can use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water and scrub with a cloth or toothbrush. Wipe dry.

Cleaning the Interior of Your Cabinets

Step 1: Empty out your cabinets one at a time. Start with the highest shelf first. Set them aside so that you can wipe them clean and remove any expired items before returning them to the shelf.

Step 2: Remove any shelf lining that has become torn or discolored. If you notice lots of dust, crumbs, and other debris, you may want to get a vacuum to remove these particles before cleaning.

Step 3: Use a mild detergent (such as dish soap) with water to wipe down the inside of the cabinets.

Step 4: Follow up with a clean damp cloth to remove any soap, and then finish with a clean, dry cloth. Allow the cabinets to air dry for 1-2 hours before replacing the contents.
